What do you think of people who get gastric by pass surgery or the Lap Band to lose weight.? |
I am 5'7" and weigh about 235. I just recently qualified for Lap Band Surgery. This journey started in May. I am a pre-diabetic, my knees are shot. I have had a psych evaluation, cardiac evalation, endoscopy, ultra sounds for gall stones. I need to lose 100 pds. I have been heavy all my life. The Lap Band is merely a tool to help me finally get down to a healthy weight. My issue is I want to tell all my friends and family but have gotten some negative feedback. How do you honestly feel about people who get surgery to lose weight. If you allow others to influence how you feel about the surgery, it will fail. You have to maintain a positive attitude about it, and then you will succeed. No diet is easy and keeping the weight off is often as hard as losing it. You are right, the Lap Band surgery is a tool to help you lose the weight. But get in the frame of mind that you are doing this for you not for others and then you will succeed. Who cares what others think, you are doing this for you. Good luck and I think you are doing the right thing as you will feel much healthier when you are not carrying around the extra baggage. Plus think of how good you will look. You may surprise yourself. I know a girl that had Gastric Bypass and is much happier now. I personally feel that you should first try everything else possible first and use there options as a last resort. If it is going to make you happier, and more importantly healthier, then i think its great. Diet and exercise really do work, and should be tried first, but for some people its just too much. In this modern world, we should take advantage of everything we can to make ourselves healthier and happier. your friends and family will just be worried about you, but explain to them how this will change your life for the better. i wish you luck. i'm 5'3 and weigh 270....am contemplating on whether or not to do it there are up sides to it and down sides to it...im diabetic and aslo have arthritis..heart problems...my dr. says it would make a world of difference in my health conditions, among other areas..look better..be more active...more self esteem...but the best of all maybe reverse some of my health issues...my problem is...no insurance and no money to get the surgery done...cost is very high...18,000 to 26,000...i really am entusiastic about this and would love to be able to have it done...bluedot |
