Dilaudid and seizures?

I had leg surgery.
i was put on dilaudid IV injections for pain and i was still coming down from anestesia. BUT I also have a seizure disorder (grand mals) and i am on 500mg. keppra and 500mg lamictal. i take ativan if i need it.
so it was like 5am in the morning so i didnt get a lot of sleep. they needed to put a catheter in and it was difficult to do it for them. i asked for an ativan cause i had an aura. then a lady came with weird flashlight to put the catheter in... all of the sudden, even with the ativan, i had a seizure...a vERY bad one. i couldnt come out of it. they called code because i want coming out of it post-ictal. and the nurse notes said i was tachycardia. it was the worst seizure i have ever had. and i feel that if i didnt have all those people there and oxygen flowing into me, etc. i would have been gone. BUT i feel that the dilaudid had a part in it. i think i could have gone into cardiac arrest. it scared me a lot. does anyone have any opinions?

"Dilaudid can cause seizures when taken in high doses and, if you have a seizure disorder, can make the seizures worse."

Mmm. If you are still on it, ask for an alternitive drug. Did you tell the staff that you had a seizure disorder? IF you did, and they still gave you the dilaudid, that was very irresponsible of them. You might want to investigate that. Also, see if you can up your doses of Lamictal or Keppra. Also, Klonopinn raises the seiuzre threshold, I was on that for a while. See if your MD will add that to your cocktail of meds.
Best of luck.
