Does allopurinol for gout have affect cardiac disease or cardiac medications?

My husband has been on allopurinol for 20+ years. Recently he had 2 heart attacks then coronary bypass surgery. He is now on lisinopril, toprol sl, lipitor and aspirin.

well, a number of very recent research works show that allopurinol is useful in heart failure. You shouldn't worry about the side effects of allopurinol on heart. I guessed there wasn't an important one. but just to make sure i checked my references once again and it was approved. You can always go over a very prestigious website (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/drugi... which contains medical info for general population and belongs to NIH.
I can provide you more information and also the full text of recenently published papers on beneficial effects of allopurionl on heart failure.
i hope this helps

Gout is painful so I wish you the best of luck. My father in law has suffered from gout and he changed his entire diet, knock on wood, and it hasn't returned. He stays away from beans and lentils, no fish or fish products. The website will tell you more. In fact I think it just about covers everything for gout.
