Need help understanding cardiac cath results?

I'm 45 and was in good health until a few months ago when I came down will a horrible virus. I just had a cardiac cath and the results said I had "slow flow and slow emptying in the mid and distal LAD". The doctor noted "consider microvascular disease, but after the procedure he told me it was due to a virus I have - I have had chronic inflamation for months. Everything I have seen online about this I either don't understand or is very, very scary. I also have an ejection fraction of 50%. Is my heart just slowing to a stop?

50 on your ejection fraction is almost normal, mine was at 20 and I almost died. You probably ended up with whats called a cardiomyopathy. This is what I had, they implanted a pacemaker/defibbrillator, and mine with the help of that and the meds mine is almost back to normal stages. The doctor might put you on a dose of Coreg!

Only your doctor can help you understand this. I am in the health field and do transcription and even I have a hard time understanding the results. What could sound good to me turns out to be a bad thing. But from my understanding of ejection fractions, the higher it is the better. As far as the slow flow and slow emptying of your LAD and all the other concerns (I know you have more concerns than listed here), you really should have a talk with your doctor or the doctor that did your catheterization. I speak with the latter since they do this for a living. Its surprising what a virus can do to your body, but its entirely possible. You have a lot of concerns and rightfully so. Just ask your cardiologist or regular doctor to interpret your results for you into Layman's terms. I hope this helped some.

I think you should ask your doctor to explain the results to you, that will be more accurate

No, your results are good...ask your physician to explain your cath results again...I'm not sure about your virus causing slow flow and emptying...usually this is due to mild narrowing in the artery, and if significant enough to treat, your doctor would have either ballooned it or put a stent in, or suggested that this needed to be done soon...maybe he thought the inflammation from your virus effected your coronary arteries as well and was causing the slow flow and emptying...but what I do know is that your ejection fraction is only slightly decreased...normal is 55% to 70%...
