Occupational Therapist work context??

can OTs help with things like shoulder pain? what about heart disease (cardiac rehab)? any other diseases (physical) that they deal with??

ots treat all kinds of illness that affect the upper body....strokes, surgery, and all accidents that affect your ability to function as a whole..they can teach how to adapt to the disability

An OT MIGHT work with someone who has a shoulder problem...it really depends on the individual facility's policy. I would say the most often, an OT will work with individuals with elbow and hand problems since a great deal of movement is needed here for fine motor coordination. A PT is more likely to work with someone with a shoulder problem...however, OT can still focus on function specific tasks such as dressing, cooking, etc. There are facilities that "give" the shoulders to the OTs

They are loosely associated with cardiac rehab...primarily in the acute phase...showing them how to complete personal hygeine and other daily tasks. PT may work then them also, but by the time they reach phase II and III cardiac rehab, this is more likely to be done solely by a PT or cardiac rehab technician.

The practice of OT is not disease specific...in other words, they don't work with individuals that have one disease but not the other...rather their work is function specific...the tasks they need to complete their occupation (ie, care for self or fine motor movements, integration into a high stimulus environment in the case of senstory integration disroders, driving, functioning with low visions, etc.)

OT's can help wiht many things. Teaching you how to excerise properly and stretch.
Handling stress at work can help a heart condition.
