Energy Drinks-- Can they shorten your life span??

Sometimes I think of energy drinks as achoholic drinks because they give some people a high... Well, to me when I drink energy drinks I feel like I'm on a high because of all the energy in me. & I know some energy drinks have achohol in them but I'm talking about the non-achoholic ones. Anyway, two years ago my dad was drinking (non-achoholic) Monster energy drinks and he had a Cardiac Arrest and almost died. My dad was not in any way, shape, or form, unhealthy. He hardly drinks achohol, he doesn't smoke, he has a job as a stuntman in the movies and he use to be a Golden Glove Boxing Champion. His heart has no problems or diseases at all. So it made me wonder if its possibly that energy drinks can be deadly.... Whats your opinion??

The main thing that energy drinks do is speed up your heart rate. While not exactly being good for you, this doesnt nesecarily do any harm. However, when you undergo strenuous activities while under this effect, it can sometimes make your heart rate go up to a dangerous level, thus your father's cardiac arrest. For some people it is no problem for them to drink energy drinks and excercise, and for others it can be dangerous. It is almost completely reliant on the genetical makeup of the person and the type of activity that the person is doing at the time.

As a side note, energy drinks do somewhat act as a "high", in the sense that they after they peak the effects drop fairly quickly. This causes people to become tired after the effects have worn off and they are excercising, because the rate of their heart slows dramatically.

Everything shortens your lifespan, including breathing and eating.
