How can calcium overload lead to cardiac arrest?

How can calcium overload lead to cardiac arrest?

Only a very high hypercalcemia would be expected to lead to cardiac arrest. Before that point, there would be a coma. Even earlier, signs of stupor.

The heart depends on precise gradients of electrolytes to control contraction. As was stated, calcium is one of the electrolytes that drives the contraction of the heart. Too much of this (or potassium, for that matter), can cause dysrhythmias and cardiac arrest.

calcium influx causes contraction of your heart. so too much calcium would lead to cardiac arrest.
