If a 30-50yr. male stranger went into cardiac arrest, assuming you knew CPR, would you put your mouth on him? |
I am hearing that more and more people are afraid to do CPR because of aids. Is this really true? The chance of getting AIDS is small from CPR because saliva doesn't transmit the disease, blood does. I would do CPR because I couldn't live with the guilt if I didnt, however, I would try to use a mouth shield or plastic if possible to prevent any illnesses. hellll noooo!!! >.>"NO!" xx "Not without a mouth cover." In a minute- that is what I committed to when I became a nurse. How would you feel if that "stranger" were you??? you would need a pool size amount of saliva to catch aids.. it is not possible yet through research. Mouth to mouth saves lives. put yourself in that position.. hey babies and teenagers also have AIDS yeah i would... i do sorta know cpr, too, seeing as my father is a doc... I would probably be rather leary about doing mouth to mouth w/ out a barrier. There is research that says even if you only do chest compressions until the ambulance gets there you are still helping. Until i could get a barrier device - yes. i would do cpr. it astounds me that people would watch a human die because they were afraid of some cooties. the chances of you getting HIV are so remote it's next to impossible... and anything else you might catch it's really unlikely it will kill you. besides, if i saw someone drop to the ground my frist thought wouldn't be 'hmm... i wonder if he's clean.' i know cpr and would feel a responsibility as a human being to act. Yes and I have done so 4 times in the past 10 years. It is highly unlikely that HIV could be passed in this way. In fact without wishing to gross you out you would probably have to drink a couple of gallons of saliva.. such are the odds. what is important is to get as many people as possible trained in CPR and first aid in general. Sometimes you can be the only shot a person has to continue their life. That has got to be worth it. I would in a heart beat...so that the person can keep theirs....it is horrible to think that someone would not do CPR to save another human.....you I do not even know how to do CPR but let me tell you if I saw another person who needed I sure as the hell would try... yes..even with no mouth shield..yes most are afraid because when a person has had CPR done to them when there revived one of the first things they do a majority of the time is throw up which with the AIDS scare and it being a bodily fluid will scare most people off from doing it.. I have a CPR license. But I don't carry a mouth piece, I would not do CPR on a stranger without one. Also some people have sued people for giving them CPR. Dumb huh, but it now makes people think twice before helping someone. |
