What is postpanoxic encephalopathy and multiorganic dysfunction provoked by the cardiac arrest???

Ive been searching and cant get a straight answer as to what this is-- all I know is a soccer player died from it. Any comments would be greatly appreciated

anoxic encephalopathy is brain damage (encephalopathy) caused by lack of blood flow and oxygen to the brain (anoxia). This is usually caused by a cardiac arrest which means when the heart sops beating and thus your circulation stops and the brain gets no oxygen.
usually the brain can take a few minutes without blood flow but the longer the arrest, the worse is the damage.
there is usually a period after the arrest that the doctor will tell you that he can't tell how bad is the damage. you have to waite and see.

multi organ dysfunction is failure of different organs in the body for various reasons. like the kidney, liver and intestines. one of them is prolonged lack of blood supply like the brain.. but theres a difference. these organs can recover, the brain usually dose not.

hope i was usefull.

yep, that was a good answer........
