Basil cell carcinoma?

my mom was just diagnosed with basil cell carcinoma. i know this is fairly easy to treat if deceted early. thats the thing though.. my mom has had the cancer for about 10 years and no one ever told her to get it checked out! she is going for surgery in 6 months to hopefully get rid of the cancer. with having it for 10 years, how far could it have spread? is there any chance it hasnt reached the bone? will she be ok? she keeps trying to tell me and my brothers that its nothing but im concearned because she has had it for so long. what should i expect from the surgery? and theres no way it could have gotten to the brain right? i hope you can help me out. thanks!

Did the doctor freeze the spot? Basil cell is the most common form of skin cancer. It is also the most curable. She should be fine after the surgery. I dont understand why the surgery is scheduled for 6 months down the road though, unless the doctor froze it and thinking it may go away. The doctor isnt worried about it so there is no need to worry yourself. It will be fine.

Go to Google and type in Basal cell carcinoma and you will get several good answers from reliable sources. It isn't much to worry about, doesn't spread throughout the blood and if surgically treated is fine. Read from the Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and the Aloha Laboratories, Inc. and it tells you same stuff my doctor told me after I found one cell on my leg. Sometimes it is genetic but mostly from sun exposure so protect your skin early so you don't get these cells after 50. Shame on Mom for not going to a dermatologist earlier. Everyone should go now and then to check for stuff like this. Preventative works better than denial in not wanting to know! Good luck!
