Cancer; squamous cell carcinoma of the floor of the mouth, second occurcence and the danger`s involved.?

Once SSC of the floor of the mouth recurs, the prognosis is generally very poor.This area is rich with blood vessels and lymphatic tissue, and the cancer spreads like wildfire, even with aggressive radiation. The radiation itself dries and hardens the structures of the neck, salivary glands, muscles, inside the cheeks, throat, palate and tongue. Eating by mouth becomes difficult to impossible, necessitating the insertion of a feeding tube, usually in the abdomen.
Get your affairs in order and fill out an advanced directive("living will") so your family will follow your wishes. Discuss your options for hospice with your doctor and the oncology social worker at the hospital where you get your treatment.
