OK, I'm a doctor so I will try to answer you.
First, basal cell carcinoma is not an infection so your friend couldn't get infected with yet. It's not a transmissible disease, you cannot take it from somebody who has it.
If your friend really has basal cell carcinoma of the skin (I suppose), he doesn't need a biopsy. It's done sometimes, but I recommend an excision from the beginning. He doesn't have to be afraid. It's true, it's not nice to have cancer, but BCC is the most curable cancer. Practically, if it's entirely removed, the surgical treatment is all it takes. Some cases, very few receive radiotherapy.
Anyway, your friend needs treatment as soon as possible. And he will be cured.

It needs to be taken seriously and treated surgically, but fortunately it's one of the most curable cancers in part because it rarely spreads anywhere else. It's not a infection but a tumor.
