Is my mother in danger of carbon monoxide poisoning??

My mom put an air conditioner in her apartment and instead of the back of it being outside she has it in a small room. I told her that carbon monixide might build up in the house. Is this dangerous???

Carbon Monoxide is produced when carbon-containing compounds such as petroleum, butane, methane and propane are burned in conditions where is not enough oxygen to allow complete burning. Complete burning produces Carbon Dioxode.

Both Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide are poisonous but - monoxide is more dangerous because it takes less to kill us.

If your mother's air conditioner runs by burning gas of any description then it needs to be properly vented to the outside as per the manufaturer's instructions otherwise carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide will build up in the house with potentially fatal consequences.

If the air conditioner runs on electricity then there's no problem (in fact - it's cool hahahaha... sorry couldn't resist it).

The early symptoms of being exposed to carbon monoxide (and, to some extent carbon dioxide) include drowsiness and bad headaches and if your mother has these symptoms then you must ventilate the house NOW. Both these gases are more dense than air and will be more concentrated near the floor, on the ground floor and in the cellar so be especially careful if you suspect carbon monoxide is being produced when investigating the cellar!

Yes it could potentually be dangerous tell her to move the back of it out side to control her well being.

yes

When that room gets hot the air conditioner won't work properly. Water will drain out and need to be taken care of. Get a carbon monoxide detector just in case but I think she won't like all the other problems that she'll have.

Look at the manufacturer's recommendations. Some air conditioners do not need to be vented. Show mom what the warranty says. If it says to vent point it out to her and that there is no clause to give her health benefits if she is exposed to carbon monoxide which can kill. Also air conditioners drip a lot of water and she must have noticed that by now. All that water could be going out side and keeping her humidity down which also helps the cooling process.

i believe not
