What happens when you have had carbon monoxide poisoning and you take morphine?

Hello,

I saw the other question you just posted and I thought about them....

The only thing standing out in my mind is the potential for Respiratory Depression from high doses of Morphine. As you may or may not know, Morphine and morphine like substances depress the area of the brain responsible for our breathing rate. If you are breathing too slowly, you will not get enough oxygen. Typically the low doses you may get while in the hospital are not enough to cause the respiratory depression. This concern is only apparent after receiving anesthesia, durring and after surgery.

but as the other people who posted to your 2nd question have already stated...

Once the Carbon monoxide poisoning is treated, there are no lasting consequences that would contraindicate morphine like substances as far as I know.... You should still be able to receive any kind of pain medication that your MD feels neccessary. The only person who can say for certain is an Anesthesiologist or Nurse Anesthetist.

Why did you ask this question?

Hope I have helped,
Angie R.N.
