What pain killer can you not take if you have ever had carbon monoxide poisoning?

What pain killer can you not take if you have ever had carbon monoxide poisoning?

Hello,

I saw the other question you just posted right before this one, and I thought about both of them....

The only thing standing out in my mind is the potential for Respiratory Depression from high doses of Morphine. As you may or may not know, Morphine and morphine like substances depress the area of the brain responsible for our breathing rate. If you are breathing too slowly, you will not get enough oxygen. Typically the low doses you may get while in the hospital are not enough to cause the respiratory depression. This concern is only apparent after receiving anesthesia, durring and after surgery.

but as the other people who posted to your 2nd question have already stated...

Once the Carbon monoxide poisoning is treated, there are no lasting consequences that would contraindicate morphine like substances as far as I know.... You should still be able to receive any kind of pain medication that your MD feels neccessary. The only person who can say for certain is an Anesthesiologist or Nurse Anesthetist.

Why did you ask this question?

Hope I have helped,
Angie R.N.

If you are really talking about carbon monoxide, it is only acutely dangerous, but if you survive it there will be no long-term consequences of any kind. So, the poisoning will not restrict your choice of future medication in any kind.

michal p is pretty much on it. there is no pain killer you cant take , nor any other medication. there are no known long lasting consequences from basic CO poisoning.

Carbon monoxide poisoning, usually occurs in an acute situation such as when a person is a victim of smoke inhalation injury from a fire. The carbon monoxide in the smoke is inhaled and bonds with the red bloods cells faster than oxygen thus reducing the blood oxygen levels. The affected individual will rapidly become dizzy and pass out. For severely affected individuals, we treat them with hyperbarics and high levels of oxygen. The increased pressure drives the carbon monoxide out of the blood and the high levels of oxygen helps the patient to recover faster.
Back to the pain medication issue. There is no known medication used for pain that is contraindicated for use after a person has suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning.

u can't take pain killers while u have co poisoing it will kill u faster
