What should I do to prevent my sister from killing herself? |
My sister has attempted suicide three times. The most recent one just this last Sunday. She has tried three different ways: Carbon Monoxide poisoning, almost shot herself but the police dearmed her, and a pill overdose. She's currently in a mental hospital, but she's already told me that's she's going to kill herself when she gets out. What do I do? By the way, she's 24. I'm 19 and we have three other brothers and sisters, and both our parents are still alive. you need to tell your parents that you know she will try again, and she needs to stay in treatment. You can't enable her, even thourgh it seems like she might get mad at you, she will understand why later on in life, if she is around to. Make sure you tell your family, they can keep her in treatment. If she needs to stay longer, so be it. Another month, or two, or even twelve is nothing compared to the life she has ahead of her. show her the better side of life. go have some serious fun. fun that is so fun, it is uncomprehendable by the human brain. just don't do anything dangerous, like skydiving. seriously. first off it is really alarming that ur sister has done this more than once and she is not in a treatment center, whats wrong with the adults in ur life, why havent they been more aggressive in her treatment, an adukt needs 2 save her from herself! You need to make sure the hospital knows she has said this to you so they continue to work with her. If the treatment she isn't receiving isn't working, try another method. Never leave her alone because that's when she'll attempt something. Have her talk to someone she confides in, why does she want to kill herself? She just needs to see how wonderful life is, even if there are rough patches. I'm really feeling for you, I don't want you to lose her. If you don't mind, I'd like to pray for her. If you're of faith, pray for her too. Intercede on her behalf and pray that a miracle occurs and that she comes out of this with her head held up high. You get to it before she can. Tell your parents and/or tell the doctors and nurses that are presently giving her treatment. They will know how to handle this situation and I'm sure have dealt with this before. You can call the hospital and ask to speak with the psychiatrist or doctor treating her. They legally can't release information about her to you but you can certainly tell them of your concern. I know you may be concerned with keeping quiet so your sister will trust you but she obviously isn't in control of herself or her life right now. Helping her would be telling anyone who would listen and/or who can do something about it. Tell your sister you want to help her feel better and get well and tell her you are very afraid for her and worried because she has no interest in getting well. Hi. You need to be able to find out what is causing her to feel this way in life. Usually its the mentality that is unstable. Some people say a chemical unbalance of the brain. If it is more her mentality, dont go out of your way to start being extra nice. She could see this as over powering for her, she could then feel suffocated or she might see you as pretentious. I say always be there for her. Maybe once or twice a week bring her colourful things like flowers (esp gerbra's) or something she could wear or even a nice card. You could cook her, her favourite dish. Take her for lovely walks on the beach or the park or even a theme park. I suggest you buy her a diary filled with her favourite colours. This may provoke her to write down expressions of her feelings. What she needs most is her family and friends to be there. Just dont go up to her and say "dont kill yourself, we love you" That is like someone saying to you calm down when you are full of anger . I hope this is ok. Good luck and I hope you sort all of this out. everybody needs to give hugs and always tell her that you love her but don't make it to obvious that your trying to make her fill better she probable wont like it do things for her that you wouldn't normally do but not so obvious that she thinks your doing it to make her happy and spend a lot of time with her read a book or go fishing or go on a bike ride go swimming with her take her mind of bad thoughts be positive but DO NOT be obvious about making her fill good about herself |
