Need carbohydrates!?

When I get home from work, I find myself really craving carbohydrates - toast, crisps, potato waffles, pasta, whatever ...

I know this isn't particularly healthy, what can I do to avoid this happening?

Your body is telling you something. Carbohydrates are vital nutrients and are needed by every single neuron in your brain and central nervous system. That is why people on very low carb diets experience dizziness. Also, they are needed for the function of your red blood cells and kidneys. These facts explain why hypoglycemia is so dangerous.

Eat high fiber low glycemic index carbohydrate sources combined with protein(i.e. chicken breast +sweet potato+broccoli).

Get some healthy seed mix like those the Food Doctor company do. They give you a boost until it's meal time. And they're healthy, too.

There's loads of carbs in banana's, so have one of those instead. It should help with the cravings.

see a psychiatrist. There maybe a deeper underlining problem

Buy more nuts, fruits and vegetables the next time you go to the groceries.

You obviously don't want the carbohydrates so why not eat fruit. I think you are eating too little during the day and your sugar then goes low leaving you craving for foods that are starchy. Try eating little and often throughout the day and see if that works.
