Shouldn't you have complex carbohydrates in your diet? |
I was thinking this because of the whole "low carb" and "no carb" craze which is the one of the latest diet fads. I personally feel better eating whole grain bread and cereal with bran because of the nutrients found in them and because they're a good source of fiber. Of course, I can see the logic in eliminating white bread, white rice, pastries, most pasta, and anything else with refined white flour because of the lack of nutrients and fiber, that's why they're called simple carbohydrates. What's your opinion? Yes, complex carbohydrates are an important part of any healthy diet. They are a main source of food energy, along with fiber and key vitamins and minerals, such as folate. Starch and glycogen represent energy sources for the body while fiber has strong links to disease prevention. Fiber foods are also beneficial because they tend to be rich in antioxidants and low in fat and calories. yes, starch carbs are actually very good for you. They keep your body going throughout the day. Eat alot of protien too. Ur body NEEDS protien and carbs. Check out www.herbalife.com Definatly have to have them complex carbs in the diet. You can not process fat as energy efficiently without good carbs in your system. White bread is the devil. Seriously, you can get carbs without eating bread, rice, crackers, or any other white food. Green veggies have carbs, too. Of course you need complex carbs. Otherwise, what would you be using as your primary energy source. And most pastas are indeed complex carbs as FitGuy suggested. Most pastas lack the amount of fiber and/or fat which would help it to break down more slowly (like brown rice), but it is still a complex carbohydrate and is classified as such due to its composition. |
