What common food/ beverage items contain refined carbohydrates?

Since too much of refined carbohydrates are detrimental to health, what are the best ways to control and limit one's intake of refined carbs?

Almost everything that comes in a package as opposed to the produce department?

soda -.-

Read the labels. Anything that has enriched wheat flour in it, I avoid. I've even noticed that some products claim to have whole grain in them (which they do), but the listing comes after the first ingredient of enriched wheat flour. Sometimes, like in the case of Teddy Grahams, it even comes after the sugar listings. Wheat Thins used to claim that they have x amount of whole grains, but it also came after the enriched flour listing and other things. I would buy the Kroger grocery store brand equivalent, which only has whole wheat, when they would go on sale for a dollar. (Wheat Thins might still make that claim and Kroger might still put their crackers on sale for a dollar. It's been a couple of months since I've bought any.) Most processed foods contain white flour, which is the refined stuff. Reading labels can take time at the beginning, but soon you should be able to just go through the grocery store, grab what you want and know what is in it, and leave.
