Information on Cannabis?

Information on cannabis - i need info on cannabis e.g. Whats the law on cannabis, what's THC, whats psychosis and any additional info? (its for cz work at school btw.)

something preferably to do with the UK not the US because i live in the UK!

Ok...first the law on cannabis is that it has been moved from a class B drug to class C which technically means that although it has been re-classed to a less serious classification, it is still considered an illegal substance.

Before: CLASS B CANNABIS
Illegal.
If you are under 18, you will be arrested and given a formal warning.
Up to 5 years in jail for possession
Up to 14 years in jail for supplying or dealing

After: CLASS C CANNABIS
It's still illegal
If you are under 18, you will be arrested and given a formal warning
Up to 2 years in jail for possession
Up to 14 years in jail for supplying or dealing

As you can see, legally, contrary to public opinion there is actually little change with the reclassification!!

Secondly...THC or delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol is the main ingredient in cannabis that affects the neurotransmitters and receptors of the brain...basically it gives you the 'high'

Thirdly..psychosis..there are some reports that indicate that cannabis especially stronger grades 'skunk' can induce psychotic episodes...paranoia,depression, schizophrenia, low self esteem, lethargy etc. There have been many studies into this claim with the outcome still being non conclusive....some studies say that cannabis brings out these effects in people predisposed to depression or from long term use from an early age but there are constant arguments on either case. One argument for the claims being dimissed is consideratio of the amount of people estimated to be using cannabis against the incidents of schizophrenia in UK today...to blame cannabis for every mental-disorder is simplistic!
For additional information....I suggest you try

Marijuana is the most commonly abused illicit drug in the United States. A dry, shredded green/brown mix of flowers, stems, seeds, and leaves of the hemp plant Cannabis sativa, it usually is smoked as a cigarette (joint, nail), or in a pipe (bong). It also is smoked in blunts, which are cigars that have been emptied of tobacco and refilled with marijuana, often in combination with another drug. It might also be mixed in food or brewed as a tea. As a more concentrated, resinous form it is called hashish and, as a sticky black liquid, hash oil. Marijuana smoke has a pungent and distinctive, usually sweet-and-sour odor. There are countless street terms for marijuana including pot, herb, weed, grass, widow, ganja, and hash, as well as terms derived from trademarked varieties of cannabis, such as Bubble Gum, Northern Lights, Fruity Juice, Afghani #1, and a number of Skunk varieties.

The main active chemical in marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol). The membranes of certain nerve cells in the brain contain protein receptors that bind to THC. Once securely in place, THC kicks off a series of cellular reactions that ultimately lead to the high that users experience when they smoke marijuana.
Extent of Use

In 2004, 14.6 million Americans age 12 and older used marijuana at least once in the month prior to being surveyed. About 6,000 people a day in 2004 used marijuana for the first time鈥?.1 million Americans. Of these, 63.8 percent were under age 181. In the last half of 2003, marijuana was the third most commonly abused drug mentioned in drug-related hospital emergency department (ED) visits in the continental United States, at 12.6 percent, following cocaine (20 percent) and alcohol (48.7 percent)2.

Prevalence of lifetime,* annual, and use within the last 30 days for marijuana remained stable among 10th- and 12th-graders surveyed between 2003 and 2004. However, 8th-graders reported a significant decline in 30-day use and a significant increase in perceived harmfulness of smoking marijuana once or twice and regularly3. Trends in disapproval of using marijuana once or twice and occasionally rose among 8th-graders as well, and 10th-graders reported an increase in disapproval of occasional and regular use for the same period3.

I don't care where you live, you shouldn't do drugs. All you need to know is that it's not good you.

In the UK, cannabis is a category D drug, i.e. only a cautionable offence to possess in limited quantities but still illegal to sell, the same as anabolic steroids.
THC is the active ingredient although there are 1,000 of chemicals in there, it give the user a feeling of euphoria and alters time perception and interferes with short term memory.
Psychosis induced by cannabis use is thought to have a genetic disposition, latest research has identified a genome with 4 genotypes, 1 of the genotypes presence indicates a high risk of developing psychosis, 2 are average risk, 1 low risk.
Psychosis is a state of mental illness involving delusional states and lack of awareness, this can respond well to anti-psychotic medication, but repeated exposure may lead to schizophrenia.

Tell who ever asked u to find out to f**k off, you dont wanna learn about drugs, its bad enoght what u hear abput them

Cannabis is anothe name for the hemp plant, also known as Marijuana, and a lot of 'slang' names
the active ingrediant is THC, Tetrahydrocannabinol, which can be inhaled - by smoking the plant/extracts, or eaten
THC has a very low toxicity. you would need to take more than is humanly possible to overdose on THC.

cannabis is illegal to grow in the UK - except under licence.
Possession of a small amount is usually treated as a minor crime, and various police forces have different ways of dealing with possession isues, although most forces in London will deal with a small amount (first offence) by confiscating the drug and issuing an official 'police caution'.
it is very dangerous to drive under the influence of cannabis - as bad as drink driving.
Long term use of cannabis can lead to permanent psychosis, a mental disorder where your mind is seriously impaired, this may be in the form of delusions or even hallucinations.
The resin/hash that is imported this country will usually be cut with other materials to bulk out the product. Some of the materials used to cut hash can be animal waste, ash, boot polish, engine oil, etc. there are no 'standards' and no one to complain to, if cancer causing substannces are included in the mix.
even leaf can be 'cut' using a certain percentage of other plant matter.
If you smoke hash mixed with tobacco, then you also have the dangerous/addictive properties of that substance to deal with, too.

rather smoke than drink, get drunk hit some one, crash a car full of people get arrested, drinking kill over a 1000 times more people than pot ie 60,000 plus a year.the only bad thing about pot is the goverment cant tax it?tax a drug{drinking} and no one cares how many millions die
