Cannabis-The most addictive drug of the illegal substances?

So i've taken illegal substances for 20 years. I am a recovering addict. Mainly from crack/cocaine but you probably couldn't name a drug i haven't tried!

It all started with cannabis.
Cannabis- the hardest for me to quit. The rest have been easy in comparison.
So it all ends with cannabis.

Wish i'd never come across the stuff in the first place. :-((

And if you're thinking of doing it....................

Don't.

And yes, i did start with tobacco!

I would have to agree with the first answerer who said that it probably all started with alcohol and tobacco. I have been a daily cannabis smoker for 17 years now and although I have tried a few other things have never really got in to any other 'drugs'. The reason I think people believe cannabis to be a gateway drug rather than alcohol or tobacco is purely because if you want to smoke cannabis most people have to go to a dealer to get it. Most people who are in to selling cannabis are likely to be selling other illegal substances and so gives you the opportunity to access drugs you normally would not get involved in. If cannabis were legal like alcohol and tobacco then it would be speed or ecstacy that would be considered the gateway drug. Why it is so hard for you to stop smoking it I don't know. Do you smoke it with tobacco?? If so then its more likely to be the nicotine that you are finding hard to give up. Or maybe just the habit of rolling one and the smoking action. I gave up tobacco 3 years ago and immediately felt so much healthier, I now take cannabis through a vaporiser or in a coffee, and find that I don't take as much as I used to, but get much more effect.
Good luck with the rest of your recovery!

Oh, Helly, I bet the first drug you did was tobacco! I firmly believe that the "gateway" drugs are tobacco and alcohol--the two our society find socially acceptable. Glad to hear you're recovering, sorry to hear you've had a hard time quitting pot. Try some chamomile tea or lavendar oil for their calming effects.

cannabis is a genus of plants- and includes marijauana and hemp--- are you talking about these drugs collectively?

Wow. That is wierd. Maybe you just have an inclination for it.

From my understanding, the most addictive drugs were Crack Cocaine and Heroin for the illegal side.

On the legal side I thought it would be nicotine and Aclohol.

And on the prescription side Oxycontin and Vicodin.

I hope you are doing well on your road to recovery though. Good Luck! =^)

predisposition plays a big part with many drugs, to include alcohol. As to the physical withdrawal I have seen individuals go thru from illegal drug use Heroin has to be the nastiest

I have a question for you if you dont mind....
I know someone who has been using some drug.. not sure what it is... but her boyfriends money is always missing.. and she runs off with his car... the main thing i want to get at is that she has big scabs all over her... mostly on her face... I can only think that she is picking at herself... I am convinced that it is crystal meth because i've seen pictures online of people that use it and it shows scabs on their faces... but could this be caused by crack/cocaine?????? what do you think? Sorry to post this as an answer.. but i thought maybe you wouldnt mind answering... you can email me if you'd like. And i understand if you dont want to bother.

I totally AGREE!!! I smoked weed for years!!! And eventually, you become immune to the fact that drugs are bad and you begin to try other things to have fun..cannabis usually goes into pills, then cocaine, then crack and eventually heroin..I've seen it time and time again..I can honestly say, I haven't smoked weed in over 6 years!! And I'm proud of it!! Don't start, I agree with Helly!

Whether it is cannabis, heroin, morphin, opium, angel dust etc... I wouldn't want to mess with those stuff as it is addictive giving a person an addiction that will be extremely hard to shake off.

The best is never touch those stuff as it can destroy the future of anyone who comes into contact with it. A future without these sh** will certainly give a clearer mind to the person who listens to this advice.

My encouragement to the one questioning this, to always keep the sanity of mind is better than to allow the wall to be broken...... I will reach out to you if I could.

Cannabis is certainly a psychologically addictive substance. That's about as far as it goes though. It doesn't have the addictive characteristics that narcotics or even alcohol and nicotine have.

Obviously everyone is different and you may have truly developed a physical dependence to cannabis. It is more likely the result of an addictive personality type.
