Is cannabis bad for you?

a few of my friends smoke cannabis socialy they say its not that bad and that beers just as bad are they correct.

PHYSICALLY - YES. It pollutes your lungs and coats your brain with fat cells.

MENTALLY - NO. It relaxes, calms, and in some cases helps people cope with debilitating diseases.

Yes, cannabis is bad for you.

Not only do you increase the risk of lung cancer if you smoke it but you seriously increase the risk of developing a range of mental illnesses as well.

To quote a BBC report:-
"As many as one in 10 cannabis users become addicted. Cannabis use is associated with cancers of the mouth, tongue, throat, oesophagus and lung and reductions in fertility, as well as with mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and depression"

From Cambridge Evening News:-
"A leading psychiatrist at Cambridge University has warned of the link between cannabis use among teenagers and mental illness. Prof Peter Jones said that in Cambridge, 80 per cent of people with schizophrenia or schizophrenia-like illnesses are either heavy users or dependent on cannabis. Four in five of the teenagers and young adults he treats at Cambridge's CAMEO Centre regularly smoke cannabis in large quantities, he said at a conference on children's mental health."

Cannabis users are up to 4 times more likely to develop mental illness than comparable non-users. Unfortunately the mental instability induced by cannabis means that users are often unaware of or deny their own mental decline or refuse to seek help due to their own cannabis-induced paranoia. (And to prove my point, I'm willing to bet anyone who gives me a thumbs down is a regular user)

all drugs are bad for u in the long run it may not seem like it now

dont bother with it. You aint missing a thing.

the problem isyes almost the same as beer imparement becare full what you do because your not fuly in controll i do it have not had problems other than a stomach ache

my boyfriend smokes it, has done since he was 16. and as for it leading to other drugs its crap, lol, he only smokes that and nothing else.
i think it can cause some side affects, but really depends.
ive heard it can cause mental problems later in life, but it also helps older people with pain relief for things like artritus. There was a case in the paper about a granny dealer, lol, she was growing it and giving it to her friends to help them with arthritus, lol. go on granny!!! lol.
Its as bad as normal smoking anyway. besides everything u do now has a side affect, cant do nothing without it being bad for you!! lol. But no point in startin smokin it if u havnt already anyway. i have had it twice and ended up over a toilet. lol.

Marijuana is illegal - bad for your legal health - if caught smoking it, or carrying it.
Beer is NOT illegal - bad for your waistline -
As far as comparing the two?
Like apples and oranges . . .

cannabis is just as bad as beer you can also get hooked on it don't listen to those people who say you cant

ask any junkie how they started with drugs

From what I have read and seen it can be bad for you for a number of reasons, both phyisical and psychological.

Psychologically - It can cause paranoia, laziness and a lack of motivation. In more extreme cases it can exentuate already present conditions such as schizophrenia and chronic paranoia and make them worse. It can also effect relationships.

Physically - The smoke is bad for your lungs if you use tobbaco but as far as I know the actual cannabis does not have any negative effects that are known.

But I do think that drinking is generally a lot worse for you on the physical side of things and can also affect your behaviour more adversely.

Just Say No!

Users can become disorientated and start to hallucinate and they may become angry, depressed or anxious after the initial feeling of well being wears off. One 17-year-old recreational user describes the down side for him as "getting the fear." He says: "I start to panic and think everyone's talking about me".

Nausea and vomiting can occur when an inexperienced user has taken too much cannabis, especially when combined with alcohol. This is commonly known as "white" or "spinout."

Users can also experience short term memory loss and reduced coordination due to the temporary confusion of parts of the brain which control these particular functions.

The short term effects of cannabis generally last for up to four hours, depending on the amount used, and the body resumes normal service after that. As for the long term effects, there's no conclusive medical evidence to suggest that cannabis causes permanent damage. But there's a risk of dependence on the drug after long term use and this can make it difficult or well-nigh impossible for the addict to function "normally" without it.

There's also no evidence that cannabis is the "gateway drug" to other more dangerous drugs although those that use it are more likely than non-users to be in situations where other more harmful substances are readily available.

A recent study by the British Lung Foundation found that smoking three cannabis joints a day caused the same damage as 20 cigarettes because people tend to inhale the smoke for longer to gain the maximum "hit". The medical community is still debating whether cannabis use leads to lung cancer - but it's a fact that cannabis contains more carcinogens (cancer-causing agents) than tobacco.

Unfortunately it is usually quite strong in todays world and sometimes dealers add foreign substances. If you grow your own and smoke infrequently and don't drive my opinion is that you are probably OK but if you smoke daily it is a big problem because scientists do not know what harmful effects there could be on brain functioning. Also in men it reduces sperm count and sometimes causes men to lose erections. Be careful. Also never drink and drive and don't chug booze.

go and see how many deaths are attributed to weed versus beer.Hands down alcohol takes more life's than weed.

Cannabis is bad for all people under the age of at least 21 because the brain cells are still growing and cannabis stops this growth. It has been proven that cannabis produces a lot of psychotic imbalances in the young who end up in loony-bins.
Cannabis also slows the body - sometimes to a standstill (i.e. dead).
But - if people prefer to lead a drug induced lifestyle that is entirely up to them because the more youngsters slammed into loony-bins the less there are to worry about on the streets.
The answer to your question is "Who cares?"

pure naturally growm cannabis by itself is less harmful for you physically than cigarettes... it doesnt contain as many carcinogens. However, cannabis does stick around in your brain. Smoking it occasionally should be okay but every day builds a dependence, it gets harder (need more spliffs) before you get the same feeling, and can eventually really mess with your head. I mean, paranoia, hearing voices etc. Also... hashcakes are much slower at having an effect than smoking. My friends uncle was at a party, ate 1 hashcake, and didn't feel anything straight away and ate 2 more and now he's mentally damaged.
I think socially and occasionally its ok... but more than that might not be

it is bad for you....just like drinking and smoking cigarettes...it affects your brain cells and kills them off in men it can cause impotence so they can not have children/

Beer is bad for you, but so is cannabis. At least beer isn't illegal, but I've never heard of someone smoking themselves into a coma. There are a large number of alcohol related deaths every year, but not a lot of deaths directly contributed to the use of cannabis. However; it's said that cannabis can cause cancer, kills brain cells, and messes with your short term......What was I saying?

well... smoking can't be good for you can it?

i do both. i wish i did neither.

no,its not bad for me!! i dont know about you.

Ten years ago, I was a regular daily user and loved it, even though it eventually cost me my job, finances and family. I gradually began to see more and more of my friends developing "ganja psychosis" too and it was terrifying to watch them deteriorate. Recent research suggests it is due to the chemically enhanced cannabis that is now distributed. Of course "tokers" are gona say it's not dangerous, they like the feeling it gives them. I had major psychological problems adjusting to a "straight" lifestyle again but I don't regret it. I can't tell you not to join in but I will say if you value yourself, you'll decide not to. Don't ever be afraid to say no. It takes more courage and increases self respect to be yourself than it does to give in to peer pressure.

Though medically cannabis said to be an ideal therapeutic drug for cancer and AIDS patients, who often suffer depression, nausea and weight loss due to chemotherapy. However due to very high potential for abuse such medical treatment is strictly restricted.

FYI, some of its side effects are:

Forgetfulness
Laziness
Distorted perception
Trouble with concentration
Paranoia
Increased heart rate
Dry mouth and throat
Increased appetite
Sensory confusion (random bad tastes, smells, sensations) and of cos addiction

In my country, a simple possession of cannabis can carry long jail sentences, and sale of cannabis may even lead to a sentence of life in prison or even execution.

Check the law in your country..

Be-warn and stay away..

The tobbaco you use to smoke the joint is much more harmfull than the cannabis, try just smoking the cannabis in a pipe, it,s more healthy, cheaper ,no cigs used, and more of a buzz , instant stoned. Cool or what.!!

beer does more harm to me, than the weed, and its cheaper to chilllllllllllllll.i have never seen anyone arrested for violent offences after just smoking weed, only when mixed with other mind altering substances..cc

whoever says cannabis is not harmfull and it don't lead to other drugs are chatting bull**** , leave well alone mate stick to having the odd pint ,

I would say it was, if it was healthy and good for you it would be available to buy surely?

no
