Canker sore or oral herpes?

I get canker sores once in a long while. But this is the first time i got a sore on my gums, its like on the gums in the back of my teeth. Well it started out as this red thing that burned, then the next day a solid bump show up (It wasn't a blister, cause it was very solid) then it turn into a sore with the white stuff over it. It sort of followed the steps of canker sore, but it also followed the steps of oral herpes. Im not sure how canker sores go in gums cause this is the first one i had on my gums, there usually like on my cheeks and stuff. So can anyone shed some light on the situation?

and i also heard that canker sore can be anywhere in the mouth, but can it also be on the gums? Because oral herpes can be anywhere in the mouth also right?

Canker sores almost always appear on the INSIDE of the mouth. They are basically ulcers in the mouth and can appear on the tongue, cheeks, gums, inside the lip, etc. They are painful and can take weeks to heal. The exact cause of canker sores is unknown but they can be caused by several different things like food allergies, braces, stress, accidentally biting your cheek or tongue, and many other things. Canker sores are NOT caused by the herpes virus and are NOT contagious.

Cold sores (oral herpes) almost always appear on the OUTSIDE of the mouth. They can appear on the outside of the lips and on the outside corners of the mouth. Cold sores ARE a form of herpes and ARE contagious. They can be spread by kissing someone who has them, sharing drinks, lip stick, chap stick, etc.

If you are concerned it is herpes then see your doctor and get tested. Cold sores are VERY common. It's estimated about 75 - 80% of the WORLD has them. Good luck!

I don't know about herpes, but I've had a canker sore on my gums. Hurts like heck. It was NOT ever brown though.

A canker sore IS a form of herpes.
If you've ever had the Chicken Pox, the herpes virus is alive and well in your body.
Good luck with that.

Colgate has a paste for canker sores it taste horrible but it works.

Canker sores are USUALLY on the soft, fleshy parts of your mouth, such as under your tongue, your cheeks, and the inside of your lips.

If you are infected with Herpes1.. the oral strain of herpes, it generally will attack the outside of your lips, the hard part of your gums, or the roof of your mouth. Why? I have no idea.

If you are really stressing about it, go to a clinic and ask to be tested. It shouldnt be too much, unless you live around me. :-/ Apparently people in Atlanta who don't make lots of money are screwed.
