Canker sore.......ow! help!?!?

I have a mouth sore (canker sore) and it hurts all the time. Does anyone know any home remedies for curing this or making it heal faster? A pain reliever would be nice. Any tips will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

these things are the worst!! i used to get them alot when i was stressed out during nursing school

because they're viral (herpes simplex b virus), there is no cure and they take about 14 days to clear up.

i found regular ibuprofen to work best. it took the pain away w/out me having to shove something numbing in my mouth to where i couldn't eat (biting my tongue wasn't pleasant either). take 200-400mg every 6 hours as needed but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours.

anbesol works ok but not for long-i used the liquid stuff. apply it to a q-tip and rub it over the sore. it will numb it but only for about 30 mins max.

stick with the ibuprofen and avoid spicy and acidic foods b/c they'll irritate the sore more. rinse your mouth out everytime you eat.

I've never gotten them to heal any faster. You can minimize the discomfort by avoiding acidic foods (tomatos, coffee, pineapple, etc.) and using over-the-counter kanker sore pain relievers. I'm not a huge fan of the meds, though, as they make your whole mouth numb and cause a lot of drooling (definitely NOT sexy, that drooling stuff!)

You could try salt to dry it up.I get those after drinking coffee cuz of the acid in it disrupts my stomach.

go to riteaid or walgreen and pick up Abesil...i know i mis-spelled but its a small bottle of liquid to apply directly on sore..its great stuff.

As I type this reply I have a Canker sore in my mouth that stings like the devil. I have had them since I was around 5 years old. There is absolutely nothing you can do to make them go away quicker no matter what the ads say.

I tried gargling with saltwater, campho phenique, various types of lip balm, and nothing speeds up the process.

I do find that Carmex coats the sore and soothes a little better. It creates a little barrier that blocks some of the more painful foods. But dry, crunchy foods will cause pain, no matter what you have on.

Sorry, that's the life with Herpes! (Simplex B that is...)
