Canker sore? Salt? Lemon?

I have a bad canker sore on my bottom lip.. my friend says to squeeze lemon on it and it will go away, will that really work? And does gargling with salt and water hurt? Thanks!

thanks everyone! but one more question.. what is peroxide and where can I get it?

its due to tension or trauma, it will take about a week to go what every you do to it. Applying salt will disinfect it & burn you but later it it relieve you of pain. Drink lemon juice, it contains Vit C., & its good for healing.

IDK ABOUT ALL THAT BUT YOU CAN BUY STUFF FOR IT @ YOUR LOCAL DRUGSTORE.

Buy Lysine at the health food store. It will go away in 录 the time.

Soak a q tip with a little Hydrogen Peroxide and dob it on a few times a day, it will kill the pain and heal it quickly.

Abreva will work the best at healing and will help prevent future out breaks if used accordingly. I wouldn't suggest using a lemon or salt on an open area. Peroxide may also be too much of an irritant to the tissue. Check with your dentist for other products.

Additional information: Hydrogen Peroxide is the little brown bottle that is a disinfectant found in nearly every house hold and can be bought at any drug store, Walmart, K Mart, grocery stores, convience stores and just about anywhere else. Most of the older people know and refer to it as the "little brown bottle." Use it sparingly on any open canker sore; try not to keep the sore open by irritating the healing tissue.

lemons taste salty

No, do NOT put lemon juice or saltwater on it! Lemons have a lot of acid, and not only would that be VERY painful, but it could actually make the sore worse.

The reason why your friend probably told you to try saltwater is because it DOES help with other problems...like a toothache, or sore throat...but for completely different reasons. Saltwater helps with a sore throat or toothache because it's a hypertonic reaction. The saltwater draws inflammation out of your mouth and helps to relieve some of the pain. It will not work with a canker sore because that's an ulcer, not swelling.

I get those sores a lot, and unfortunately there isn't much you can do except just to wait it out and let it heal on its own. The best thing to do is to put peroxide on it a few times a day to disinfect it. It will sting for a few seconds, but will help the sore to heal a little faster. Get Orajel or Anbesol and put it on with a swab. That will numb it so that you sleep and eat without it bothering you too much.

From my experience, there really just isn't much more you can do. It will start to go away on its own in about 3 or 4 days. If you are getting the sores a lot though, you might want to go to a doctor to see if you have some kind of vitamin defficiency. Also, are you getting enough sleep? Stress and lack of sleep can cause them.
