Canker sore....what causes it? How do I get rid of it?

I've had this big canker sore on the inside of my lip and it has been bugging me! How do they form? And how can I get rid of it?

it is a for of herpes

virus

gargle with salt water two-three times a day.

acid's in your food and you wait them out

probably bit it or something. it will go away in time.

honestly, it's herpes, but it's not bad, i get them all the time.
spray this green chloroseptic spray on it, it numbs it and it'll go away within a couple hours.

i hate canker sores!! i dont know why they form, but i know that to help ease the pain gargle with salt water, but otherwise you have to wait for it to go away. sorry!!

it will go away on its own, until then, buy this stuff called kanka. make sure you follow the instructions. its usually caused by excess acid in the mouth. it is also a form of herpes.....it doesn't mean you have herpes, its the same makeup as herpes. no need to worry though. they are just a pain and will be gone soon. be careful of salty foods.it can aggravate it.

Canker soars are actually a form of herpes. Pretty much all you can do is wait it out but there are products like abreva that speed up the healing time and make them feel a little better.

Use a mixture of 1 part Benadryl and equal part Maalox. The Benadryl takes away the pain and swelling while the Maalox coats your entire mouth.

Canker sores are linked to several things

1. streptococcus sanguis (see last source), some people take tetracycline for it (see second source)

2. crunchy or spicy or acidy foods
(ie pickles, vinegar, soda pop, tomatoes, orange juice, lemon juice, etc., italian bread (crunchy food) . Lay off the acidy and spicy foods awhile and see if that helps. One source recommends a mouth swish of equal amounts of milk of magnesia and benadryl liquid (see the next to last source)...see the first source for other swishes..

3.injury to cheek or gums or tongue (ie hard toothbrush, dentures, braces, crunchy food, biting yourself by accident inside the mouth)

4. sodium laurel sulfate in toothpaste
(there is a toothpaste named Squigle that doesn't have it in there)

5.it is linked to families (genetic)

6.dietary deficiencies, such as low B12 and low iron or low folic acid)

7.stress

8. allergies (food or drug)

9. menstrual periods or premenstrual syndrome (according to last 2 sources)

10.smoking

11. illnesses in which the immune system causes swelling or inflammation of the body tissues (autoimmune disorders). Examples of autoimmune disorders are systemic lupus erythematosus, Crohn's disease, and Bechet's syndrome.

12. Treatments
Several prescription medicines may help with canker sores. If your canker sore is large, painful or won't heal, your doctor may prescribe an anti-inflammatory (Aphthasol or Kenalog in Orabase) or collagenase inhibitor (Tetracycline or Peridex). Talk with your doctor to decide what treatment is best for you.

numbing ointments such as benzocaine, diphenhydramine suspension (Benadryl).
Mouth rinses containing the antibiotic tetracycline (but can stain teeth) If the canker sores are caused by a yeast infection, a topical anti-fungal medication can be used (nystatin). Some people with AIDS (HIV infection) who have canker sores respond well to thalidomide.

alot of times they`re caused by stress or certain foods, theres no way to get rid of them right away, just wait till it goes away

You proabably bit your lip. I used to get them from eating certain foods. To get rid of them make sure to brush your teeth twice a day and use mouthwash to get rid of the pain. It is not from herpes so don't worry. Only cold sores are herpes.

Many factors have been known to cause canker sores such as certain toothpaste, stress, hormones, certain additives in foods, milk, spicy foods, bacterial and infectious germs. There is a wide variety of things that can cause them and yes, they do hurt. Hope you clear up soon!

canker sore is a mouth ulcer. It is unknown what causes these mouth ulcers, but it can be triggered by a series of exposures, trauma or predisposing conditions. Trauma to the mouth, toothpaste and mouthwash containing sodium lauryl sulfate, high degree of stress, vitamin deficiences and allergies can cause canka sores. Treatment of canka sores usually depends upon cause.
Treatment can be at home remedies or presription drugs. A 1/2 teaspoon salt dissolved in 8 ounces water, calamine(calamox)lotion, use of a toothpaste or mounthwash that does not contain sodium lauryl sulfate. Prescriptions consist of triamcinolone acetonide, a corticosteroid or cimetidine.
