When someone uses a cane after a foot/leg injury, what side do they use it on?

I ask because there's this guy who's suing me ( long story) but I don't believe he is actually hurt. He's carrying a cane around, but he doesn't even use it for support.

So I got some video of him using it, when I noticed that he holds the cane in his left hand, when his right foot is the "injured" one. Is this unusual? I would think that a cane should go on the injured side, but I'm not so sure...

thanks for answering this rather strange question

There are many wrong answers here, the correct answer is, you use the cane on the opposite side to the injury.

I was shocked when I learned this myself but it's absolutely the truth.

How do I know, because I broke my ankle and after removing the cast was taught how to use a cane properly by a physio therapist.

Is normally used on the injured side, helps take some of the weight off of the injury. This helps with balance and to reduce pain while walking.

as have had serious accident and also briken leg in the past, l always used my crutch or cane (used both) on the side of the injury so as to put pressure on it rather than the leg

Good detective work. Keep an eye on him, because your absolutely correct. You may catch him doing something else he shouldn't. I would check with your attorney though on the legalities of it. Good luck! I hate F'in losers who are sue happy!

you use it on the oppisite side.
my mom broke her leg and had to use one so she asked her doctor the same thing and she said on the oppisite side!

hope i helped = ]

the side of the injury

**( i had to use one in 7 or 8 grade :0 that was funn lol )

hooroo !

Usually it's used on the side of the injured leg, same as when somebody only needs to use one crutch. You can't put weight on an injured foot. With old people who just use it for support, that's a different story, they can use it on either side, but if it's for injury it goes on the injured side always.

When I was using only one crutch, my doctor told me to hold it on the side opposite my injured ankle, for extra support.
