When walking with a cane, is the cane used on the weak leg side or the alternate side? |
Person has a weak right leg but is left-handed. Would use of a cane be on the right hand or left hand for support? the cane should be used in the opposite of the weak hand, so in this case it should be used in the left hand. putting it on the right adds more stress on the right side. The right hand. left i suppose alternate side. The right hand because it's the right leg that is weak and the cane is to alleviate the pressure on the right side. If you have ever watched House, there were arguements whether Dr. House should hold the cane in his right or left hand. The answer is the alternate side, but it is ok to use it with your dominant side. The alternate side |
