What is the proper use of a cane? |
Should a cane be used on the same side of the injured leg? The text book answer is to use it on the hand which is opposite of the affected extremity. This is because it gives you a larger base of support when standing on the affected leg as opposed to using it on the same side. This creates a situation for better stability. There are certainly conditions, however, where someone needs to use it on the same side, such as if someone has had a stroke in the past or is unable to use the appropriate upper extremity. uh...i think the opposite side so all the weight goes on the unhurt leg It is what you feel most comfterable with. To amplify that "Pimp" look...also can be used as a weapon in a pinch... |
