What would be some good exercises for a handicapped person to do; for fitness & losing weight? |
I have a physical disability (I use canes, and a wheelchair), and would like to know some exercises that I can do to lose weight, and stay fit. Since I am on limited income, I cannot spend a lot of money on exercise equipment, so I am looking for things that I can do for free, or very little money. There's a lady on my local PBS station that does chair exercises. It's geared towards seniors but perhaps some of her techniques could help you. If you're looking to strengthen your arms, find things around your house that could double as weights (cans, milk jugs, etc.). How do you do in a swimming pool? Swimming is an excellent form of exercise and offers you the benefit of relative weightlessness. Good luck to you! do sit-ups, they're free Can you go in the water? If so maybe you could join the local Y for some of their exercise classes. They will also help you with the fee. you could try that over the door stretch thingy,^aquatics is good too, my mom had flabby arms at 60 and firmed them up really nice, and i think you could afford Relacore well i wish you specied what body part can't work but... you could buy two 5 pound bells and just keep lifting them for a long time and it would shed a few pounds eventually and will shape the upper part of you. And if you can atleast 30 sit-ups a day. free?,...nevermind....i was goin 2 say go to jenny craig and order food...u can really lose weight...my grandma lost a lot of pounds....but nevermind u said free...and dat stuff is expensive..sorry couldnt help ya Swimming or water aerobics. Your insurance may cover a subscription to the "Y" or health club with prescription from your Dr. www.disaboom.com I take it you have no use of your legs? Well using your muscles automatically burns up the fat in your body... Fat turns to muscle. If you are using a wheelchair you will be gaining alot of muscle in your arms.. Try wheelchair speeding in your local park/track.. I'm sure you could do crunches too but I don't know your exact condition.. any aerobic exercise or weight training you can do with barbells or dumbbells you can do with a broomstick, books or something heavy that you can hold onto at home. and they do not cost a thing if you already have them! |
