HELP!!! does my husband have an STD or is it a drug reaction???

Ok, well, my husband was put on cefadroxil about two weeks ago for an infection in his salivary gland. he then a few days later said he had bumps on the head of his penis. he had discharge that was clear. he keeps saying he must've just been allergic to the drugs. he didn't take the course of cefa all together. he only took about half of it because he always forgot to take it. the bumps kept getting worse and began itching. he then started saying about 4 days ago it was getting better but i still saw him itching his crotch often. i kept telling him to get an std test b/c i think it's chlamydia or gonnorhea. so, my question is basically if anyone knows of a drug reaction like this happening, and if it was an std, would the symptoms really dissipate without treatment? also, if he's asymptomatic, is his std test result going to be effected? i know cefa can cause candidiasis but, this didn't look like that, it was red bumps, not white and blotchy. so, can anyone answer any of these??

Sounds an awful lot like herpes. But there are other STD's too that might qualify. I have many drug allergies and I have been struggling with herpes for many years given to me by a thoughtless boyfiend, so I'm familiar with both. I would be stunned if this was a drug reaction. They almost always occur on the torso, chest and back, sometimes spreading a bit further. I think you have good reason to fear the worst. If I were you I would demand std testing and you should also announce that you will be attending all appointments with him to hear the results and be free to speak with the physician freely. If he won't agree, you'll have your answer even he won't go. Sorry, Sweetie. I wish you the best.

If it was a drug reaction the rash would have been more global; not just on his penis. Sounds like something is weird; keep some condoms around the house. He might be a bad boy.

Don't take a chance. Call the doctor's office today and ask that question so you will know. I

I agree that it sounds quite like herpes. A reaction to the drug would have been in other areas not just his penis. Usually drug reactions are broad range. I think he should get checked right away and I would not have sex without a condom.

This is not a reaction to the prescription, if he was allergic to it he would of broken out everywhere on his body (back and arms are the most common spots to get a allergic rash) it sound like a STD and not that its my business but how would that be poss. if your his only sex partner? he needs to go to the doctor...

I really think it's herpes here are some symptoms
* swollen lymph glands
*painful inflamed blisters develop around infected area
* headache
*muscle ache
* fever
* vaginal or penis discharge
*infection of the urethra causing a burning sensation during urination
* a burning sensation in the genitals
* lower back pain
* small red bumps may appear in the genital area following earlier symptoms, later developing into painful blisters, which crust over, form a scab, and heal
