Cure for cancer in 12 months old child - ALL type?

My friends child is having ALL type cancer. He is 12 months old. We have started regular treatment at Hinduja Hospital Mumbai. Kindly suggest with alternative methods of treatment.

Does any one know people in his network facing the same problem with similar age child? What was the treatment he/she received. What is the present condition of the patient.

Thanking you all in anticipation.

My daughter is 18 months old and has ALL. She was diagnosed at about 10 months. Let's start with the fact that if left untreated (or treated with alternative methods) leukemia is 100% fatal. That means putting your baby in an ozone tent is a death sentance. The standard protocol was outlined nicely by another answerer. Induce remission, prevent spread to the brain and maintain therapy. ALL in patients between 3 and 20 is very "curable." In babies it is not so curable. The rates are closer to 50-60%. I recommend getting to a place that has a protocol of at least 2.5 years including high dose Methotrexate therapy.

I want to reiterate my concern--treatment in the western medicine is the only option if you want this baby to live.

The only treatment I have heard of for such drastic cancer is found in Canada somewhere. It is an Ozone tent. I had a friend who was told she had less than 6 months to live, and she should get her affairs in order. She went to Canada, and they put her in some high concentration Ozone tent for 45 minutes, out for 15, and back in for 45 (not certian that the times are correct) They did this several times over a few days....6 1/2 years ago, and there is no sign of her lung/lymphatic/breast cancer.

Good luck.

Local chemotherapy regimen will vary widely and wouldn't take drug specific advise from the web. The general principles are:

1) induce remission (brief intensive treatment)
2) prevent spread to the brain
3) Maintenance (prolonged therapy)

I suggest looking for a local support group similar to http://www.leukaemia.org/ who can help answer many of these questions.

Cure rates for ALL depend on the cell type causing the disease. Crude average survival is good with >75% cure rate in UK.

ALL has one of the highest "cure" rates of any cancer with conventional therapy (80-90%). Why would you want to take a chance of unproven therapies?

There was a news recently about a boy with ALL whose parents used alternative therapy against the advice of doctors. The cancer came back and it is much harder to fight the more advanced the disease. He died.
