Whats the best way to tell your youngest college age child you have cancer?

Whats the best way to tell your youngest college age child you have cancer?

In this serious situation, your child needs to trust that you'll always be straight with them, tell them the information as it happens, and never hold anything back. The longer you wait, the more chances you have of losing trust.

Let the information come from you, not a doctor. However, if your child has some questions that you cannot answer, or has a hard time accepting the news, invite them to your next appointment, and include them in any treatment options you may have.

tell it to him/her straight or if you can't, take him/her to the doctor with you.

wow..........I dont think there is a good way or right way. I think you just need to set your child down and tell them straight out. Have information/pamphlets, etc on hand for any questions that may arise. Go online and print some information if need be. Know all that you can about it first of course. I am sincerly sorry this is happening to you. Just know that you are not alone. Okay? I have dealt with this cancer with others in my family and friends and I can tell you it is very difficult as you know. If you need to talk Im me or email me................take care......

As soon as my Dad found out, he was straight with us. I was so grateful for that. It's best to let them know soon as you can, and what you're up against. It's best for everyone involved and they will appreciate it too. If your child is local maybe invite them over to your house to tell them, in a comfortable setting. If not and it has to be done by phone call, maybe you should have a friend be with them when they hear the news. Also include them in all the updates as time goes on. I was always grateful to be included in that part as well. My prayers are with you all.
