Does anyone know of counseling or support groups for children of cancer patients?

My mother has breast cancer, and her health has recently started to decline. My sister is in high school, and she is starting to miss a lot of school. I think this has something to do with my mothers health, and I want to try to get her some help. I live across the country, though, and I don't know where to start. They live in Florida.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

American Cancer Society - there are some great sections on helping kids deal w/a parent's diagnosis on www.cancer.org. As well, they are available 24/7/365 via 1.800.ACS.2345 for information, support, links to resources/support groups, etc. They also have a message board for survivors and caregivers online.

Your moms oncologist or a nurse at the oncologist's office probably has information on support groups for family members. If they don't call the social worker at the hospital or county health department or your sister's guidance counselor.

God bless!

O.K. here is my suggestion, first call your sister and talk to her. Tell her that you are going to get her someone to talk to and help her cope (of course don't say it like that)
Then call her school, and ask to speak to her guidance councelor or to someone that can assist in this problem. Then let her know what you did and let her know that the reason that you had done this is because you care about her and that you care about what she is going through. This is going to be a very stressfull and hard time for everyone, and I wish you and your whole family alot of luck!!!
