Can children get cancer?

And should they be worried and wahat should they do ?

No one is safe from cancer, including newborn babies. My son has a rare abdominal childhood cancer that predominately strikes boys and young adults. It is a devastating disease that affects the entire family. He is a teenager so understands all the treatment and what it means to have this disease. Prior to being diagnosed he was a perfectly healthy normal and athletic Junior in high school . . there was no warning whatsoever that he had cancer. He had a well physical to play basketball in December . . found perfectly healthy . . and by the first of March he had multiple abdominal tumors (some the size of volleyballs) . . that's how fast it was. It wasn't until a few weeks before diagnosis that he had any type of symptom at all . . and that was weight gain even though he was practicing hard every day. He went up two pant sizes in a month because his belly was filling with tumors and fluid . . but we didn't know.

Harder for us is to see all the small children and babies with cancer. He is seen by a pediatric oncology cancer center. We just returned from a major facility and met many young parents who had children with cancer. It is heart wrenching because these little ones do not know what is happening to them. They play just like normal kids do but they are so sick.
Childhood cancer is so devastating I cannot even begin to tell you what it is like. Why the government is cutting funding for childhood cancer research is . . . a crime . .

Not all stories about childhood cancer is bleak . . there are many more survivors than there ever was in the past. Children are able to withstand heavier treatment than adults and bounce back quicker. It is still a devastating disease to face, but there are many courageous and beautiful kids facing this daily.

yes children can get cancer. and cancer is a scary thing. i know grown men break down and cry because of the fear they had.

Unfortunately yes they can, but I wouldn't worry about getting it as the chances are fairly small. If in doubt see your Doctor.

Yes, you can get it at any age. Very sad.

yes

Many chilren die of cancer every day! :-(=

Yes children can get cancer - anyone of any age can. Theres not much you can do to prevent getting cancer - it just happens sometimes. I guess not smoking is the obvious answer.

lots of children have cancer..what kind of stupid question is that...

Worrying about cancer is not healthy. Yes, kids can get it but worrying is not good at all.

Yes, they can and no they shouldn't. Life is to short to worry about everthing that may or may not happen.

yes

Yes, kids can get cancer. Very young children, 3 years old, can have some of the most painful cancers but their is the Jimmy Fund, an organization that helpd children as well as adults.

Yes, most common is Leukemia, or cancer of the blood.

sadly, yes they can

Of course children can get cancer. Have you heard of leukemia? That is a cancer. Have you heard of St. Jude's Hospital?
I don't know anything about you. Maybe you are really young?
Have you seen Erin Brockovich? There were children in that film that played children with cancer that they got from tainted water.

Yes they can and do, too many in fact, get treatment in the same way as an adult would. Scary for everyone, but a child doesn't necessarily understand what is happening to them.

Yes they can.
But there is no point living your life worrying about it.
Eat healthily , excersize and stay happy.
Should you have any health worries then seek advice from your Dr

Yes of course but there is no need to be over protective and everytime they are ill think it's cancer just be cautious and dont ignore your child or dismiss them if they say they are ill just live life as normal because whatever will be will be

Yes but they shouldn't be worried that would be like being afraid that the boogie man is going to get you !! Unless it happens why worry! I could get cancer but I'm not going to sit around worrying about it life's to short for that!

yes here is a Child Cancer Helpline no 0800-197-0068 i hope this helps you

hi dear
Kids don't get cancer very often. And many of those who do get it can be treated and cured.

Yes they can

yes they can but its not something they should worry about unnecessarily.

children can and do .there are childrens hospices all over the country.and they are just like big homes where they live out thier last days.

yes they can, but they shouldn't worry about things like that. You know your own body and how you should feel, if your not feeling right you tell your parents and they take you to the Doctor. Everyone of us has a chance of getting bad stuff, but you have to not think about those things
A child should be happy, and concentrate on playing, making friends, and yes schoolwork, things like that.
I am sure if there is any history of bad health in your family your parents know and will know what to look for and what to do should you get sick, but.... for now don't let these things worry you, you will have loads to worry about when you grow up

Definitely yes.

However, it all depends on the presence of risk factors, the location or organ you are asking, and the type of cancer.

But in general, old age, being cells gone for many traumas and exposure to events and envirnomental factors, have more percentages of cancer generation.

children can and do get cancer
they accept it better than adults and show a lot of courge

erm, yes !!

course children can get cancer. what a silly question.
did you not listen at school

Yes children get cancer, my youngest son was diagnosed age two. He's now a healthy happy ten year old. Do he and his brothers worry about getting cancer? No, they enjoy life to the full, having fun and being full of the joys of the world. My son sees his oncologist once a year now, he thinks it is a great outing to head to the city to visit the children's hospital!

yes especially lukeimia
