I have a demroid cyst w/ hydrocephalus;if it is benign can it be cancer? The word 'benign' means it is not cancer; I've never seen that particular cyst name before, but the derivatives of the words seem to be something to do with the skin and water or fluid filled. The only time any growth that is benign can be a problem as far as I know, is when it is located in an area or wrapped around an area where it cannot be removed for fear of damaging something else. I think most fluid-filled cysts can be drained either by taking medication or needle aspiration followed by minor surgery to remove any debris left behind to prevent it from refilling. Benign means just the opposite of cancer. It means harmless. Any type of benign tumor can become cancer. Though, if it started out being benign, most often, it will stay that way. I would get regular blood tests to chech if it is still benign, or get the cyst removed. Hope this helps. |
