I'm 32; Breast cancer runs on both sides of my family.? |
My Mom has pre cancerous cells... Grandma on Mom's side died of breast cancer. Grandma on Dad's side had a breast removed due to cancer. I'm scared. I trust my Gynecologist; she even found a tumor on my Pituitary gland (benign, thank God). I'm worried, what should I do? I know exactly what you are talking about. Cancer runs on my mother's side. I lost my mother, grandma, aunts, and uncles from cancer. All on my mother's side. All 3 of my cousins had breast cancer and it's very scary. I'm only 36 and I get a mamagram and pap smear every year. It's the only way of finding out for sure. Keep up your faith. It does help. regualr exams by a doctor and give yourself bi weekly check ups, also you might pray it never hurts ooooooooooohh!!! thats harsh well im sorry Just get checked like 2 times a year.I know its scarey but you do have some power in this because you can get early detection. Dont feel powerless. You may carry the gene for breast cancer. Two genes are BRCA1 and BRCA2. Women with a BRCA mutation have a 33-50% risk of developing breast cancer by age 50 and a 56-87% risk by age 70. They have a 27-44% chance of developing ovarian cancer by age 70. Half of all women with a hereditary risk of breast and ovarian cancers inherited the risk from their fathers, not their mothers. Please ask your doctor about this test. For you and any sisters that you may have. If you do have the gene, there are preventative medication and surgical options that you can consider. And if you do not have the gene, there is peace of mind. No matter what the test results would show, you should be diligent at monthly breast self-exams and see a breast specialist every 6 months to 1 year. I just saw a show on genetic testing, insurance may cover that. I think you should be having check-ups with a Breast Cancer Doctor - not a gynecologist. There are specialists for Diseases of the Breast and that is who should be doing your exams. How to protect yourself against cancer with food. |
