Accidentally ate raw chicken--how do I prevent food poisoning? |
I accidentally ate some raw chicken tonight--don't ask! But I got online and read that 83% of all store-bought chickens have either salmonella, campylobacter, or both! That makes it very likely that I'll have one or the other. Does anyone know what I can do to lessen my chances or at least minimize the misery? I've started taking pepto-bismol and peppermint oil, but I'd love to know if there are any other ideas!! Thanks so much!! I actually tried to cook it (I'm not the greatest cook ever) and did check to see if it was done, but I was dumb enough to do it without the main light in the kitchen on. I didn't realize how badly undercooked it was until I had already eaten a significant amount of it raw... So, there you have it. Confessions from a lousy cook. You can anticipate sudden onset of nausea, cramping and diarrhoea 6 to 72 hours after eating salmonella infected food. Campylobacter infection may take two to 5 days to become apparent. This will normally include diarrhoea, fever, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting. Let it pass through you as quickly as possible! Even though you said don't ask I would love to know how in the hell did you eat some raw chicken? Just very curious!! Hi, There's nothing you can do and no cure. You'll just have to wait it out. Expect to be down for a few days if you do have it. Accidentally eating raw chicken is not a guarantee of food poisoning but there's a roughly 90% chance you could get it. Hopefully not though. :) Just wait and watch. You probably do NOT have any of the diseases that you looked up on the internet. If you had food poisoning, you'd be well aware of it by now. if you take some probiotics or even greek yoghurt that may increase the amount of good bacteria in your gut and help you fight off toxic bacteria like salmonella |
