Calcium during first trimester? |
my doctor told me to stop taking calcium supplements during the first trimester i was wondering why lets put it this way - Maybe it was making you gain weight. Your doctor is crazy. Switch doctors. 1000mg of calcium a day is recommended even for pregnant women. Maybe he was concerned about too much vitamin D which may be in some calcium supplement. Take your calcium with a glass of milk or just take your supplement with food. The last 2 trimesters of pregnancy you absorb more calcium than you do when you are not pregnant. Your baby needs calcium..if you don't take get enough calcium your body will simply take it from your bones to help your baby and you will increase your chances of developing osteoporosis. I am not really sure why the doctor told you not too, but the whole time I was pregnant with my son I had bad acid reflux so I ate like a pack of Tums a day for the whole pregnancy. Then when I delivered my son, he had a hard skull and it didnt "cone" like babies heads do when they come through the birth canal and he had a subdurral hematoma. And my midwife asked me if I had taken in alot of calcium so I told her about all the Tums and she said that was why it happened. Ask your doc the reason and see what he says and mention my story and see if he agrees with my midwife. |
