When I should stop taking the Calcium tablets??

I am taking 2 calcium tablets daily since I was in the third month of my pregnancy. After few days I will be in my ninth month. I still take the 2 calcium tablets. But when I went to a new doctor 鈥渁nother from the one I had seen before 鈥渟he said that I must stop taking the calcium tablets when I am in the ninth month because it could cause some problems with the baby鈥檚 Joints and that will stop the baby鈥檚 growing. My calcium test鈥檚 result last week was 7.9 mg/dl. So what do you think stop the calcium tablets or what?

First, call and ask your doctor for more information about the adverse effects of calcium during the 9th month. You might want to ask for the evidence: evidence-based medicine is important! Also, sometimes, what the doctor meant to say and what the patient thought they heard are not quite the same... this may be a miscommunication.

The classic obstetrics text - Williams' Obstetrics - 22nd Ed. (2005) - does not suggest stopping calcium during the 9th month. However, this text is almost two years old now, so there may be new evidence!
