Calcium Allergy?

Does anyone know if a calcium allergy can cause seizures? My granddaughter was allergic to milk if it touches her skin it turns where ever it touched red. The doctor had given her calcionate and it does the same thing. I can't find any information on a calcium allergy. Any ideas?

The calcium that the doctor gave her does the same thing to the touch. It turns her skin red. So she does have a reaction to calcium. She has West Syndrome/Infantile Spasms and I am just trying to figure out if this may be the cause.

Allergic reactions can look like seizures. I don't know that I totally believe in a calcium allergy though, as calcium is in a lot of foods and your body needs it for bone development.

I do think that she may be allergic to the source of the calcium. So high calcium foods such as broccoli might be ok for her, but calcium from milk wont be.

I would check into vitamin suppliers, such as kirkmanlabs.com or try to give her calcium rich foods to get calcium into her. If you do look into alternative vitamins, do make certain to inquire as the SOURCE of the calcium/vitamin, and not on its "milk-free" status. Many products can be considered "allergy-free" if they're processed enough, but if their source is still an allergen people can still react. So make sure to double check.

You may also want to check other milks than cow milk to see if maybe goats milk or sheeps milk may work for her. There is a small amount of milk allergic that cannot have any animal milks, but there are some that can.

Good Luck.

no

i think it wont but a calcium allergy is the body rejecting it because somewhere at sometime she was deprived of it and she does need the calcium just monitor her if she does seize take her to the hospital and get a new one JUST JOKING but do take her to the hospital AND YOU CAN REACT TO A LARGE DOSE OF CALCIUM MORON
