Can someone overdose from Calcium, Vitamin D, and Vitamin B6? |
I'm 16 yrs old and im taking multiples and calcium tablets. is 650 I.U of vitamin D (162%), 662 mg (66%) of calcium, and 12 mg (600%) of vitamin B6 bad for my body? what happens is you overdose on calcium? how much calcium do I need? Your body NORMALLY gets rid of excess calcium, so too much is not an issue. I know that Vitamin A is dangerous in high levels and I am not sure about Vitamin D. . .though I recently was told of a common vitamin (can't remember which) that one can take too much of, and for some reason Vitamin D has a bell going off in my head. . .I hope someone here can help you. BTW. . when you hit 18. . .and those of you who are eligible. . . be careful!you can overdose on anything, overdose means you're taking to much. ask a doctor before taking pills because they should know what's best for your body. You can overdose from anything. Your body needs balance in order to survive. Even too much water can kill you (take it from me, I have high blood pressure). your body wont absorb very much calcium so take as much as you want. As a kid, my mom would not allow candy in the house. If I had munchies, she would give me a handfull of calcium tablets to chew on. freaking hated her. BUT, I have never broken a bone and believe me, I should have. Now the E and B6 is a different story. 400 iu of E is considered a massive dose and is dangerous. Look it up. Don't know about B6 but it is a vitamin not found in large doses in nature which would tempt me to say you should back off. If you eat a balance and varied diet you really don't need that much multiple vitamins. Try the multiple vitamin for women or for men, one a day. Safe to skip days, weeks, or months. normal doses are: calcium- 1000mg, vitamin D- 400 mg and vitamin B6- 2mg. The reason pills are higher than the recommended amounts is the they are not absorbed as well by the body as real food. DUUUUDE.... VitD can cause rickets or khashiorkor. If your body has to much calcuim it can cause calcuim build-up which is calcuim starts to store it's self in differant areas of the body to get it out of the way. This can be very bad because some organs can be turned into the dumping zone and can cause organ failer. Vit D I just don't understand why people take it at all, people can get Vit D naturally from just being outside. Sun light is a natural way to get Vit D and the safest, however people can over do it in the sun to, Sun poisioning? That is mostly just Vit D overload. Before taking any vitiams you need to take to your doctor at your age you should not even need them as long as you have a healthy diet. But don't take my word for it don't take anyones research it talk to your doctor. For 16 you should not need the extra in your sysytem. Vitamin D is one of the least toxic things there is, there is no chance you could overdose on 650 IU. You're body will get rid of excess calcium, and 662 mg is a relatively low dose (even less than RDA) and not likely to cause a problem. 12 mg of B6 is also very unlikely to cause toxicity; 50 mg is the lowest dose that has caused side effects. |
