Calcium deposits on childs optic nerve? |
My 8 year old had a vision test yesterday. He鈥檚 a bit nearsighted but so are his mother and I so no surprise. However the optometrist detected that his optic nerves are bulging which he said could be simply calcium deposits but 鈥渢o be safe鈥?the office is referring us to a children's retinal specialist (an othomologist). They are even making the appointment to get us right in. If you google calcium deposits + optic nerves + kids the list of brain tumors is extensive. My question is how worried should I be? I鈥檓 a calm person but I鈥檓 starting to worry. He鈥檚 had no other symptoms of brain issues that I have detected. your child's condition most probably is (Optic Nerve Drusen) which a hereditary condition, the condition is usu sally asymptomatic, but when so decreased visual acuity, and visual field defects, the problem of this condition that calcium deposition may progress and interfere with the blood supply to the optic nerve, there is no treatment of the condition |
