Calcium supplements for Women Under 50???

I will be 30 this year. I have recently changed to a healthier diet and have stopped drinking milk as often (in favor of water, plus, I used to have milk with cookies, brownies, etc.).

Osteoporosis runs in my family, and I am concerned that I am not getting enough calcium. Is it okay to take calcium supplements if I am not even close to 50 yet?

I want you to know that you don't have to give up milk! If you're really concerned about the fat content, drink skim (although, I'd recommend just putting up with a bit of extra fat and drinking 1%, personally). You can also add orange juice with calcium added to your diet, as it has just as much, if not more in some cases, as a glass of milk with no fat.

As for the calcium supplements, it is perfectly fine for you to take them. I recommend taking a Calcium, Zinc, and Magnesium combination supplement in combination with a Vitamin D supplement, as all of these minerals (and vitamin) will help you to better absorb and store the calcium. However, I would recommend taking that only before bed, as it could make you a bit drowsy (calcium is naturally a mild sedative, that's why your mom would give you a glass of milk if you couldn't sleep when you were little).

Yes! All women should take calcium supplements no matter how old!! I take them everyday, (I'm 28 and breastfeeding my baby) but will continue even afterward. I also drink tons of milk. I would recommend a good supplement, like GNLD's chelated calcium/ magnesium. -www.gnld.com-

There are many different reasons women need calcium supplements, and it's perfectly okay to take them - along with other women's vitamins and such.

personally, my method of birth control requires me to take calcium supplements and i'm only 19.

a change of diet is probably the best change you could have made, however, take a close look at what you have changed. our bodies, men or women, need protein, GOOD carbs, and of course water. as you know sugar is not good, saturated fats, etc. young people have been brought up exposed to fast foods of all kinds. all things that happen to our bodies are usually from ingestion. we know it's not good, but we are on the run, working, etc. i answered a question earlier, just from my experience only, i'm not a physician, or anything remotely close. i know what worked for me, and others. i didn't mean to get off the path of your question, but i think this will help you, as i stated in my other answer, GOD MADE GOOD, man made bad, if we had started when we were babies, or children, and only had been exposed to veggies, organic chicken, fish(without shells) grilled not fried, and ate that our whole lives, would you be worried about your potential situation??? I know i wouldn't be. your 30, and i'm sure intelligent or you probably wouldn't have asked tis question on line. If i may suggest to you, acquire the books i have read, #1 The natural cures they don't want you to know about, and #2 More natural cures revealed, they are by kevin trudeau, in my opinion, a wealth of positive information for a lot of people. I don't know if this was any help at all, but if it helps a little, then i'm glad i was on line at this time. I wish you Good Luck And A Very Long Life.
Mike.

Calcium supplements have nothing to do with age. They come in multiple strengths, forms, and are made by many different brands. I am currently 25 years old, and I find that taking a calcium supplement a week before my period helps make the cranky symptoms that come before my period a lot less than they would be otherwise. Use the supplements exactly as the instructions on the label say, as you don't need too much calcium in your body.
