Is calcium important to your diet?

I am concerned about getting enough calcium, especially since I'm a teen. Is getting 100% DV of calcium something I have to give everyone a headache about, or will my bones grow normal anyway? Details and specifics would be nice : ) .

U need Ca like crazy... no Ca in ur diet no healthy bones. u dont wanna suffer from osteoporosis when ur older.
U need about 1300 mg of Ca daily with 800 IU Vitamine D...

exercise help you build stronger bones as well since it promotes Ca deposit in ur bones. Since you are a teen u r a pefect age to build bones that u will stay healthy for the longer time. so Yes take ur Ca pills and drink milk. As well, try to do some weight lifting and running, those help ur bones :)

i one glass [or a little more] of milk every day is enough.

You need calcium, for your bones, and teeth, if you do not get sufficient quantities as a growing teen, the results will be apparent when you age, and your body, bone structure start to diminish.

It is very important to get it, and one glass a day of milk for a growing teen is far from enough.

yes! calcium is very important! if you are concerned about not getting enough, or if you dont drink much milk or eat yogurt or anything like that, then go ahead and buy a calcium supplement. and make sure you dont take it at the same time as eating meat or anything with iron in it. (that makes it harder for your body to absorb the calcium) :)

Your bones should grow alright. You should drink orange juice, eat oranges etc. But dont stress out about it. If you like milk drink two glasses a day.

everyone knows you need it for your bones and teeth, but its also absolutely essential for normal nerve function, brain and mind well-being, ability to relax muscles after using them, and parathyroid hormone functioning.
Calcium helps regulate healthy heart-beat and circulation, and blood-clotting which minimizes bleeding and helps speed heeling if you get a scratch or scrape or injury.
Calcium helps you deal with stress during the day, and eases insomnia at night.
Calcium helps your body use iron properly, and activates enzymes, and helps transfer of nutrients through cell walls, to help keep every cell of your body healthy.
Calcium is essential in helping to regulate your body pH levels, help prevent ulcers and stomach upsets later, and maintaining a less acidic pH level helps prevent cancers too. Now if your so convinced that calcium is necessary and good for you, and it is, you should also know that there is such a thing as overdose of calcium, in case you take supplements and go overboard on it. Hypercalcemia is the name for overdose on calcium, which could affect your kidneys, nerves, muscles, blood-clotting (coagulation), too much calcium is simply too much of a good thing, and it won't do what it does with healthy amounts. Cacium and other nutrients (magnesium, phosphorous, Vitamin D, etc...) often work together, so its best to get a balanced diet.
