Anyone here ever give up caffeine?

Feel better?

( I gave up caffeine after 25-30 years of daily use. Maybe even more -- my mother used to put Pepsi in my bottles. No lie.

In any case, it is a drug and there was definite withdrawal -- headaches, energy changes, cravings. But after about two weeks, those effects are mostly gone.

I actually feel more energetic now. I think I'm in better spirits. The feeling I'd been having all these years was of time going by really fast, like I was missing something all the time, and then regret. Now I don't feel that way at all. Maybe I had some caffeine sensitivity all this time?

Who knows? But it's really hard in this culture to not use caffeine, I've realized. We were in a Shirley pizza place earlier and their only caffeine-free options were ginger ale, water and Sprite. Then there were about 20 products with caffeine. Even orange soda has caffeine. Why?

Now I regret not having given up this crap years ago. Sell your Starbucks stocks. Word is going to catch on.)

Sure did and the change was impressive. Like you, I had been drinking coffee and taking caffeine regularly for more than 20 years. It took so much to give me a buzz off that stuff that I could literally drink two cups before going to sleep and have no trouble sleeping through the night.

I gradually reduced the dose over a few months as I didn't want to go cold turkey. I went from the equivalent of 4 double espressos a day, down to one cup of weak brewed coffee before giving it up altogether.

The first week I felt groggy all the time, I found myself falling asleep at work more than once and was so exhausted at the end of the day that I was out like a light by 9pm.

Afterwards, I felt a lot clearer than I did before. I no longer needed a cup to wake me up in the morning and didn't miss it.

I will admit to taking the occasional cup here and there, but it's no longer an addiction. I can take it or leave it.

I drank 3-6 sodas a day for over 10 years. I have now quit drinking soda for about a year. I don't feel any better... I feel worse to be honest.

theres also healthy alternatives that have caffeine...I drink tea and I feel good....lol, but I did stop drinking pop, and I'm very glad, non of that chemically full of sugar stuff in my body :)

well...from what Joe said I guess it's psychological lol

I haven't given up coffee in the morning but I gave up pop and I feel a little better. I replaced it with water and green tea but because it's been a short time, I can't really say it's made a dramatic difference. It saves money I guess. haha xD

Noo... :) Starbucks has caffeine free options... don;t sell!!! hehe
but i agree.. i might do the same....

Everybody's different, but I gave up caffeine for a couple weeks when I started the Atkins diet - at the suggestion of Dr. Atkins - and I suppose I felt slightly better. But the problem was that it wasn't that much better - so I got back on it.

It's all around us in coffee and soda. It's too bad - it's a fairly useless thing - I'm sure we'd do better without it. But it's so hard to avoid it. You're right - it's crap - but Americans love their useless crap - look at Georgie Bush.

I gave up caffeine about 2 months ago when I found out I was pregnant. I was drinking about 6 Diet Cokes a day. I gradually weaned myself from it (it took about 2 weeks) and I feel so good. I still miss the Diet coke and will take a few sips of my husbands every now and then but I sleep better at night and I feel as if I have more energy throughout the day.
I will probably go back to drinking it, though, after the baby is born! :) I really do miss it a lot! Maybe cut back on the cans a day.....
