Effects of caffeine on metabolism?


does caffeine decrease or increase metabolic rate? some diet plans say that caffeine is bad for you since it decreases the metabolic rate within the body. whereas some diet plans and tablets that increase metabolic rate contains caffeine since it sates that it increases metabolic rate and causes the use up of stored fats.

would anyone have solid facts on which is a myth? i, myself have been a coffee addict for ages but havnt put on fat or had side effects but some argue otherwise.

Caffeine is a stimulant, and causes an increase in metabolic rate. If you are trying to lose weight, caffeine can help by increasing the beta oxidation of fats, which is how you body uses fat for energy.

There has been a lot of research recently that people who drink 4+ cups a day have like a 30% decrease in the risk of heart disease due to antioxidants in coffee. Whatever your reason, scientists have not yet found a reason to stop coffee consumption, unless you have ill side effects from the caffeine itself.
