CT Scans??

After suffering severe tummy pains i have been shcheduled in to have first a CT scan of my abdomen with a contrast injection......later that day I am due to have a CT scan of my pelvis. What could they find?? I am aware that it can pick up appendicitis etc.. but what could the scan of my pelvis show?? I will have a barium enema two weeks later.

A CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis can show many organs or abnormalities:

"What are some common uses of the procedure?
This procedure is typically used to help diagnose the cause of abdominal pain and diseases of the bowel and colon, such as:

abscesses in the abdomen
inflamed colon
cancers of the colon, liver, pancreas and kidneys
pancreatitis
lymphoma
staging for cancer
diverticulitis
appendicitis"

The abdomen CT scan will image from the very bottom of the lungs/very top of your liver all the way down to your illiac crests (this is about where a belt line is located). A pelvis CT goes from the top of the illiac crests to the pubic symphysis (at the bottom of your urinary bladder). So a pelvic CT will show the rest of your large and small intestines, your sigmoid colon and your rectum. It will also show the path of your ureters (tubes that run from your kidneys on both sides to your urinary bladder) and your bladder. I don't know if you are male or female, but we can also see the female uterus and ovaries.

If you go to the website provided above, you can get more information regarding a CT of the Abdomen and Pelvis. It is a patient information sheet.

There is also a patient information sheet regarding a barium enema here:

(((hugs))) I can understand how worried you must be about this. But it is impossible to say what they will find. Speculation as to what it might find is only going to worry you more. Ask to speak to your doctor again, and explain your worries to them.
I can't tell you to relax and not to worry either, because you are going to be tense and worried until you get your results. But please try to rest and fill your mind with other things. I hope this helps. Feel better very soon.
