Can breast cancer be spotted with chest CT scan? |
I am in remission with renal cell carcinoma and get CT scans of chest, abdomen and pelvis every six months. I also get annual mammogram. Would breast tumors show up on a chest CT scan? I don't want to avoid mammograms, but it would be reassuring to me if I knew that every six months I was also getting a picture of the breasts. CT scans can show breast cancer, in theory I guess. However, because of the way some forms of breast cancer grows, mammograms are standard screening tools for breast cancer. A CT scan cuts the area of body into small segments, if you have a small cancer forming, the CT can miss this and cause serious problems. It is even more important to get these screenings done as you are recovering from renal cell carcinoma - this puts you at higher risk for other forms of cancer in the body. Best of luck to you in your continued recovery from cancer. Keep fighting. Also make sure you talk to your doctor, he or she is the best source of information regarding YOUR health. It is possible, but Mammogram is the standard test to check for Breast Cancer. |
