CT scan for a four and half year old Kid.. safe or...? |
My nephew (four and half year old) is having pain in left side of head (right above ear) all of a sudden he starts crying and says that he is receiving shocks which are unbearable for him. This happened for five six times with time gape of approximately one or one and half month. A CT Scan is a non-invasive low-risk method to pin point your son's ailment. It involves a low dosage radiation, and given from your information given, the benefits highly outweight the risk. Misdiagnosis is common especially w/o a clear picture into the brain & its current functioning state. a CT scan should be fine for a child of that age. just don't go for them too often, because the radiation can have detrimental effects (even in adults) if the scans are used too much or too often ct scans are safe for any age just like a x-ray The Ct scan is safe and is only way to make sure there is no obstruction of anything to brain..There are no side affects to Ct scans. Well nothing is safe but believe me better than X-ray. i don't know anything about the disease but i can help you on the cat scan. my son was 3 when he took a small fall and more than likely directly on his tail bone. for 13 hours after that he refused to move anything but his head. this had the doctors baffled. in a period of 13 hours he had 3 sets of x-rays and one CT scan. i too had my doubts on the safety of such high powered tests on a 3 year old. to be totally honest i can't remember much of what the doctors told me of the scan all i know is that the scan was safe and that everything should be fine. i will be praying for your nephew. A CT scan is no more dangerous to a child than an x-ray. My 3 year old has had CT and MRI scans before (due to other illnesses) and the benefits far outweight the minimal risk of radiation. |
